1. It is still way early to make any assumptions about the final shipping configurations, software applications, and features that this phone will deliver.

2. I love my Palm Treo 700p. I love the features, additional software that I can load on it, the form factor. That being said, I think Apple has a pretty seriously cool entrant into the mobile phone market with the iPhone.

3. If iPhone is really running OS X and they don’t totally lock it down (think about how quickly people figured out how to backup their iPod to another computer…) people will figure out how to hack it. This, like a Treo, is a computer in your pocket. That could be seriously useful and may very well change the perception of what a “phone” is, just like smart phones redefined what a phone does.

4. I want to see one in person. As a current longtime Sprint customer, it would take a lot to make me switch providers. The iPhone may be that. Of course, version 2 of it will probably be even better.

5. What Steve Jobs demonstrated in the keynote address and what the pictures show is a giant leap ahead of any of the smart phones. RIM and Motorola stocks just dropped significantly. Guess who trades stocks? Serious business users do. Perhaps they’re reacting to what they saw and just glimpsed what their next phone was going to be.

So I guess I would have to say that in my opinion, the iPhone will be perfectly suited to many business applications as well as being an absolutely killer user-friendly mobile device for consumers as well. In other words, they may very well have hit a combination of hardware and software that is a long-term huge winner.

My own initial concerns about it include:

- Fingerprints all over the screen, all the time
- Upgradability options / openness to outside developers?
- Web browsing (what was shown is definitely cool, but for actually reading the web, an approach like the Palm Blazer browser is pretty ideal in my opinion, since it is optimized for actually reading onscreen and not just seeing what the whole “desktop version” of a webpage looks like.

Anyways, I’m looking forward to seeing it in June.
