St. Louis winter storm hits us good – tree down and power out

St. Louis got hit by a nice mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow last night (also known as “winter mix”) which did quite the number on our neighbor’s tree in that it split down the center at around 4:00 am and then fell down onto our power and telephone lines. We had power for a little while, then it went out.

This also means that Collabofit and RSS2.com will be under maintenance for a little while until our power comes back on. The UPS did a great job of protecting the servers from shutting down when the power went out, but I had to shut them down when it it became apparent that the power wasn’t coming back on anytime.

The funny thing is, when I was on hold at 4:30 am, waiting to talk to Ameren UE (our power company) about the outage, I was on hold for so long that I had a dream that our power came back on and the tree was gone from our backyard. It was such a convincing drea that I hung up the phone (having not gotten through in what felt like being on hold for about 2 1/2 hours) and went to sleep. Of course, when I woke up, no such luck, the tree was still down and we still didn’t have power. Ah, fun times…

Thank goodness for St. Louis Bread Company (aka Panera Bread) with their free WiFi, warm and cozy atmosphere, and warm food and drinks for sale.
